ThriveMap Shortlisted for Best Candidate Assessment & Selection Strategy at Talent Labs Awards
Why This Nomination Matters
Prison officer recruitment is notoriously challenging. The role demands not only technical skills but also immense emotional resilience, situational awareness, and the ability to perform under pressure. Unfortunately, traditional recruitment methods often fall short, leading to high attrition rates and mismatched expectations between candidates and employers.
The Challenges in Prison Officer Recruitment
Mitie, a leading facilities management provider, faced significant recruitment challenges for prison officer roles, including:
- High attrition rates: Early dropouts were common, disrupting operations and increasing costs.
- Misaligned candidate expectations: Many candidates were unprepared for the realities of the job, which is physically and emotionally demanding.
- Limited insight into real-world role demands: Conventional assessments struggled to accurately measure key attributes like resilience and decision-making under stress.
Our Collaborative Solution
In collaboration with Equitas, who brought ThriveMap in as the assessment technology experts, we co-created a Realistic Job Assessment tailored specifically for Mitie’s prison officer recruitment needs. This innovative assessment simulates real job scenarios, allowing candidates to experience the role virtually before committing.
The Impact
The results have been transformational:
- Improved candidate alignment: Candidates understand the role and its challenges upfront.
- Reduced attrition: Early dropout rates have dropped significantly, saving time and resources.
- Stronger hires: Mitie can now confidently select candidates ready for the physical and emotional demands of the role.
